CNC machine datasheets are packed with specifications that can be confusing for first-time buyers. Here is a plain-language guide to the terms that matter most.
Travel (X / Y / Z)
Travel describes how far the machine axes can move. It determines the maximum workpiece size the machine can handle.
Spindle speed and taper
Spindle speed (RPM) affects cutting speed and surface finish. The spindle taper (such as BT40 or BT50) determines which tool holders the machine accepts.
Positioning accuracy
Positioning accuracy, usually given in millimeters, describes how precisely the machine can position the tool. Tighter accuracy means better repeatability for precision parts.
Control system
